Cherrie Bramwell, a bat expert, became interested in pterosaur flight in the late '60s and early 70's.  She was inspired to work with an engineer to examine the flight characteristics of Pteranodon.  This species is known from a wide range of fossils.  This paper significantly adds to the ideas of Hankin and Watson and eventually lead to a flying model being constructed, which was broadcast in a BBC program "Pterodactylus lives" in 1985.
