Ornithocheiridae (Seeley 1870)

The Ornithocheiridae are represented by a significant number of pterosaurs with common features.  They include the Anhangueridae, Coloborhinchidae and Ornithocheiridae.  Historically, this family of pterosaurs has been a dumping bin for may unclassified or random fragmentary remains.  The classification was rationalised by David Unwin in 2003/6, making more sense of the species groupings.

Many Ornithosaurs have a distinct club ended mandible.  They are generally medium size to large pterosaurs and are found throughout the Cretaceous Era.
